Paradise now! The story of Spectacular Times.
In the 1980s, a series of pocket-sized pamphlets quietly changed how a generation thought about the world. Larry Law's Spectacular Times took the dense and often impenetrable theories of the Situationist International and made them funny, cheap, and impossible to put down. This book, written to coincide with the return of Spectacular Times to print, celebrates Larry’s life and work through newly commissioned essays, never-before-seen photographs, and vivid testimony from those who knew him. Nearly four decades after Larry’s untimely death in 1988, Spectacular Times remains unsuperseded. This volume explores Larry and the scene in which he existed to recover a world of radical print culture, community-building, and the stubborn conviction that another life is possible. Paradise now!
We would like to thank Liz for her support in us republishing Spectacular Times. She would like to say that everyone is free to reproduce Larry’s work- it doesn’t belong to her, and everyone used to shoplift it anyway. We would also thank our friends & comrades at Freedom Bookshop, 56a Infoshop, Interference Archive, Sparrows Nest Archive and MayDay Rooms for archival support.
